Hämeen Matkailu - Hämeenlinna page 2-3
here are 108 towns in Finland, but none of them equals Hämeenlinna, the only town with an ideal combination of nature and culture, everything nicely and easily within your reach. Hämeenlinna is situated in the middle of Southern Finland. Of the five million people living in Finland, over two million have chosen to establish their homes and businesses within a radius of 150 kilometres from Hämeenlinna. As the oldest inland town in Finland, Hämeenlinna provides its visitors with unrivalled attractions and experiences. There is old and new, nature and culture, urban sceneries and countryside landscapes – all in harmony with each other and easy to experience all year round. At the turn of the year, the town of Hämeenlinna grew eleven times in size when the surrounding five municipalities were combined with it. This also meant an increase of about 20.000 persons in the population of Hämeenlinna. The same change turned the area into the most popular summer home region in the country; there are currently about 7000 summer homes in the area of Hämeenlinna. In addition to its stunning landmark, the Häme Castle, Hämeenlinna is also known for having been the childhood home of Jean Sibelius, Finland’s national composer. The Aulanko nature conservation area, the numerous golf courses,
and the other sport and recreation possibilities in the beautiful setting of Finnish sceneries are guaranteed to provide our visitors with a memorable experience. Finns like to cultivate clichés about each other. The people of Häme are sometimes seen as more sluggish than the other Finnish tribes. This, however, can be viewed as one of our advantages: in Häme, we have time to pay attention, to focus on what is important; we have time to enjoy life – and in Häme, we have time for you. Come and visit Häme to witness this yourself.
